A masterful takedown of our truly delusional & incompetent out of his depth mayor, Cate!

I wonder what he's personally going to get out of the Bears deal?

Will it be big envelopes of cash under the table?

No show jobs for his wife & children?

Perhaps his kids will start selling insurance to the city.

Hey, old-timer, love the Time Tunnel references! I wonder how many of the youngs will get it?

(and loved the exposition of the parallels)

Youngs, great term! Not as patronizing as "young 'uns." I have to confess I only knew The Time Tunnel on some kind of unconscious level, being not yet in kindergarten when it was on and apparently spending too much time on Star Trek and Twilight Zone reruns later. But I knew it anyway, somehow, cultural osmosis I suppose, because when trying to decide how to do that, that is what I was thinking of and I used those words to google for it: "time tunnel." Now that I think of it I better change the subhead from "Twilight Zone Edition" to "Time Tunnel Edition."

I, too, was delighted by the "Time Tunnel" graphics and references. Born in the '50s, I was probably in a prime demographic for enjoying the "30 episodes from 1966 to 1967" that Wikipedia refers to. I always recalled the show fondly, and in a nostalgic mood maybe a decade ago, I actually purchased the 2 DVDs that comprise the whole run. Uh, I must report that the show did not hold up all that well. But, I was pleased enough to revisit it, anyway, and plowed through them all. My wife, who was (shockingly) not very interested in the project, managed to put up with them, too!

Anyway, this is an amazingly thorough and clever look at the stadium nonsense and a wonderful site, overall. We recently spent a Sunday wandering around the South Loop area, where I saw a couple plaques referring to the old Central Station terminal. In following up on that, I enjoyed your equally thorough and clever "Mighty Illinois Central" post. Those before-and-after photos of the areas north of Randolph and south of Roosevelt are almost unbelievable. So, thanks!

Thank you Steve, great to hear! Very motivating. I’m gonna see if I can find Time Tunnel streaming somewhere. It’s time.

As a former AYSO national board member who lives in the Loop, I find this comment kind of odd: Can you imagine having to drive your kid downtown and pay for parking, all for an AYSO game?

Jeff, I reread that paragraph and decided it made sense to adjust it. Thanks for your input!

Thanks Cate.

Had to stop listening to the latest Mincing Rascals to read your change.😀

When I read about "youth sports" as part of the proposal, I did wonder who or what they were talking about.

Sorry, I’m just used to neighborhood games when my kids played. But admittedly they were very young when they played. Did not mean to cast shade on AYSO at all!
